Run Ethan, Run!

Today was the Hershey Track Meet.  This track meet is a big deal and Ethan looks forward to it every year.  He's pretty funny about it because he loves it purely for the social aspect and not so much for the athletics.  Or so he says.  At the same time, he is very cognitive of the scores and times -- at least his own. He says he remembers how he did the year before, though I have noticed his prior years times and distances are very much like fishing stories -- he always does this well! It makes me laugh because it's always the same story, "I  must be off today, Mama, because last year I ran this fast and this year it was only this fast." I always say the same thing, "As long as you're having fun, babe, as long as you're having fun."

He always does the same three events: the 100 meter, the softball throw, and the standing long jump.  He loves them.  In my mind, he did fantastic.  He came in 6th for the 100 meter and ran his best the whole heat.  Considering he didn't train once for this party, I think that's pretty darn great.  The softball throw kills me every year.  It is, by far, the slowest, event to wait for.  Each kid gets three throws and each throw is painstakingly measured.  It takes forever!  But again, Ethan did great.  Even though he says his shoulder popped during each throw.  He's such a nut.

The last event for him was the standing long jump.  Crazy kid.  His farthest jump was 61 inches.  I remember this one because it is the same height as me!  Not that I would trust him to jump over me if I were laying down!  Ethan is convinced he jumped one 70 inches last year but I am not too convinced of that.  I'm pretty certain I would remember that, though I was freezing and miserable last year.  And, oh yes, pregnant.  In spite of all that I am still sure I'd remember an over 70 inch jump.  He is so funny.

Blythe enjoyed the festivities and clapped everybody.  I was worried she'd be scared for all the clapping and cheering -- let us remember how Boy Scouts is still a sore subject for her -- but she did great!

And of course I forgot the camera.  Of course I did.  Please imagine Ethan running, jumping, and throwing.
