California or Bust!

We went to California again. Like crazy people.  And we drove. Like even crazier people!  Actually, Blythe did very well in the car and only lost patience with us and her carrier the last 20 minutes there.  We are very blessed.

Of course we went to Disneyland -- we're pretty hardcore -- but we also spent time at my hometown beach, Seal Beach.  We loved the day there.  It was a bit coolish in the morning, as it usually is in California in June, so we spent the morning taking Ethan around all around our old neighborhoods. He was very patient with us.

We went down my old 'hood in Rossmoor.  The street sign is the ONLY thing that hasn't changed or been torn down and turned into an enormous house.  I love how it is so consistent.  When Ethan was tiny, he would run to that corner and jump in place, yelling "I did it! I did it!" because  he was so proud that he made it there on his own without me holding his hand or holding him in my arms.

This sign has no emotional significance to me whatsoever other than the fact it amused me and that I had no idea coyotes were a real live problem now in Rossmoor.  Hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife!

I didn't take pictures in Long Beach.  I knew Ethan was getting impatient to get to the beach.  But we did drive by schools and houses.  Grandma A and B's houses are exactly the same!

Finally we got to the beach and it was perfect.  Since it was overcast it wasn't very crowded at all.  Perfect.  The kids had a great time, which is just what we wanted.

Of course, we ended our day at Ruby's on the pier, eating french fries and milkshakes!  We had two very exhausted kids on our hands.  A successful day.

We spent a lot of time at Disneyland on this trip, but I didn't take many pictures.  Between having fun and running after kids, taking care of Blythe -- I forgot!  But you can imagine we had a lot of fun.  Ethan decided to start pin collecting on this vacation and did pretty well for himself.  He had a good time exchanging pins with Disney cast members.

Blythe was pretty happy throughout the whole Disney experience.  She enjoyed looking around in line and of course the rides.  This time, she really loved the Ariel ride in California Adventure.

And are these not the cutest pictures or my people, or what?

Ethan (and Jonathan) was most excited about the opening of the Lego Store.  And even though I said NO MORE LEGO I gave in.  Ethan brought home a small Lego set.  I'm a sucker.  The Lego Store is pretty fabulous.  We had to look at everything and I, of course, spotted this right away:

A grammar error!  Who was the proofreader?

Look at all these remarkable Lego sculptures!  Ethan was an awe.  I hope these do NOT show up in my basement.

Though I think he is already considering it...

We took a day to go into "The City" as we tend to call it now that we live in Utah.  Ethan has been dying to see the Hollywood sign and that sort of thing -- the kinds of things we took for granted when we lived in Southern California.  While driving there, Jonathan and I immediately remembered why we never drove into The City.  It's a pain in the rear to drive there.  In Utah, it's not hard at all to drive into Salt Lake City.  Driving into Los Angeles is like driving into Dante's Inferno.

But, Ethan loved it and he got to see the Hollywood sign:

And it really was as exciting for him as he hoped it would be!  I was worried that when he saw it it would be an anticlimactic experience and he'd be disappointed.  Nope!  He was thrilled!  We took a few moments to walk around Griffith Observatory too.

And this is exactly why we moved far away from Los Angeles.  What a fabulous skyline!  Not really.

All together we spent a week in Southern California.  We enjoyed seeing old friends and spent the night in St. George on both ends.  We were excited to be home.  When I find my cord, I'll upload a video of Blythe swimming.
