Lollipop Trees

I remember so distinctly my elementary school art teacher, Mrs. Uyeda (pronounced U-eda). She was the greatest. One art lesson was making little lids for jars that looked like cookies with the wrappers for Hershey's kisses on top. Then we had to make clay Hershey kisses to go on the wrapper. And guess who had to eat all the kisses? Yeah, uh-huh, that's right. We did. But there was one point of disagreement between us and Mrs. Uyeda. Always. And it had to do with lollipop trees. She was always mad at us for drawing and painting unrealistic trees! I mean, cut us a break, we were only kids, what did we know about realistic trees? But she insisted that our trees were not to look like circles on top of sticks. Why? Because we will NEVER see those in real life!

Well guess what?
Today was the day!

Behold: The Lollipop Tree exists!
Notice its round bulbous top...

...balanced on its stick-like trunk.

It feels so good to be so right so many years later. This is for you, Mrs. Uyeda. Kindly so, because you were a great art teacher, even if you were wrong about the Lollipop Trees.
